Job summary

An exciting opportunity for a registered midwife to work with the Maternity team to be our joint-lead Band 7 Midwife for Fetal Medicine and Antenatal/Newborn screening and provide the midwifery leadership of the screening teams. It is a part-time role 22.5 hrs/week

They will work in partnership to ensure that the Trust provides an exemplary screening and fetal medicine service ensuring that the National screening KPI, workign closely with the MDT.

They will provide expect knowledge and teaching to the midwifery team on all aspects of screening and fetal medicine.

They will provide direct line management of the teams, be the point of contact and support for women and birthing people with abnormal screening results. They will provide counselling and guidance to help the people under their care make informed decisions and assist in the formulation of individualised, specialist care plans

Main duties of the job

  • Providing midwifery support in the combined clinic, as part of the MDT including Fetal medicine doctor, neonatal consultant
  • Providing midwifery support at planned appointments with women attending fetal medicine appointments with known felt abnormality.
  • Direct line management of Newborn hearing, team, Antenatal screening and fetal medicine team
  • Ensuring adequate staffing so that a member of the screening/fetal medicine midwifery team is available for immediate referrals from the fetal medicine scan clinics for women with new diagnosis, provide individual support and advice to the women and their families, and make any referrals to other internal/external agencies that are required to enhance care.
  • Reporting notifiable abnormalities to the appropriate bodies in a prompt time-frame.
  • Coordinating plans of care where women are receiving care from multiple specialties/agencies and ensure all plans for woman/neonate are clearly documented and communicated with the wider maternity team as appropriate
  • Ensure all guidelines/policies related to this service are maintained in line with latest Local and Nationalrecommendations.
  • Ensuring the service in in line with KPI expectations
  • Collate and cleanse data, create and ensure completion of effective action plans, create reports for local and national reporting.
  • Present reports and chair quarterly meeting with NHS England and associated parties.

The Maternity unit deliver just under 5000 babies a year. We provide care for a diverse population across West Berkshire. Part of our maternity strategy is equity in access and outcomes tackling the multiple dimensions that affect local healthcare inequalities.

The unit comprises of a delivery suite, midwife led birth centre, postnatal and antenatal wards, outpatients and Day Assessment Unit. We have a very successful home birth service, specialist teams to support vulnerable women and continuity of care teams.

We have developed a 'seeking sanctuary ' service which is a mutidisciplinary approach to providing care to pregnant women seeking sanctuary in the UK and their families. This service was presented as good practice in the NHS three year delivery plan.

We have an established joint led services for rainbow, bereavement, diabetes, fetal medicine, pre term birth.
