Consultant Clinical Scientist - Biochemistry
The successful candidate will act as Clinical lead for Biochemistry at RBH andBSPS Network lead for clinical oversight of pre-analytical processing relevant to Biochemistry
The person willbe accountable for the provision of a comprehensive specialist scientific (analytical and advisory) and clinical service as a Consultant to hospital medical staff and other healthcare professionals within the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, primary care colleagues and any other service users.
The person will also provide biochemistry advice and service to clinical staff (medically and non-medically qualified), patients and their carers for diagnosis, the monitoring of disease risk and the monitoring of disease progress and therapy.
Main duties of the job
To be accountable for the provision of all aspects of the Royal Berkshire clinical biochemistry service to nationally recognised standards (UKAS ISO 15189) and is the leader of the Royal Berkshire Biochemistry clinical team.
To provide Duty Biochemist cover on a rota basis with the other clinical staff across the Network 2-3 sessions per week during normal weekday working hours. When on desk duty is the main point of contact for clinical queries to the department.
This post holder will be required to share the provision of out-of-hours Clinical Biochemistry service. The out-of-hours commitment is shared on a 1:4 rota. IT links to provide remote access to the LIMs system (WinPath Enterprise) from home are available.
To chair and lead departmental committees and working group including the RBH Laboratory Quality Assurance Committee.
To work with other stakeholders to plan, organise, initiate and lead a multidisciplinary and multisite Preanalytical Biochemistry Committee focused on pre-analytical processing which impacts on the Biochemistry service across the 6 hospital sites of the BSPS Network.
Supervisor for entrance level post-graduate trainees and higher specialist trainee (HST) in clinical biochemistry.
