Speech and Language Therapy Apprentice - Fixed Term
Proposed interview date 19th June 2024.
This is a fixed term contract covering the length of the apprenticeship (BSc qualification over 4 years), after which candidates will be able to apply for a registered Speech and Language Therapist position on successful completion of their course.
An exciting new opportunity is available for a Band 4 Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join the team at the Royal Berkshire Hospital to undertake a Speech and Language Therapy Apprenticeship. If you are looking to further your career within the Speech and Language Therapy profession, this could be the position for you!
The role is based within all areas of the Speech and Language Therapy team. These are: Medicine, Surgery/ICU, Orthopaedics, Respiratory, Elderly Care and cross cover as required to Acute Stroke/Neurorehabilitation Unit.
You will work as part of a dynamic and supportive team, where staff uphold the Trust values in all aspects of their job roles.
In addition, you will undertake a BSc Speech and Language Therapy Apprenticeship, due to start in January 2025 and expected to be at Birmingham City University.
Please be aware that in order to apply for this post, you will need to meet the entry criteria for the Speech and Language Therapy degree course. There will also be two interviews - one with RBH and the other jointly between RBH and the university.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will have NHS experience as an SLT Assistant and be competent in basic assessment, treatment and teaching skills. You will have sound IT skills and demonstrate the Trust's values of Compassion, Aspiration, Resourcefulness and Excellence.
Regular appraisal, supervision and support will be given and there is a requirement to actively participate in the development of your peers.

The Speech and Language Therapy Service at the Royal Berkshire Hospital is a group of 15 SLT's, 4 support workers and an administrator covering acute medicine, acute stroke, neurological rehab, ENT and ICU as well as our enthusiastic and knowledgeable Head and Neck Cancer team.
Well respected across the Trust with award winning Leadership we are dedicated to providing a supportive and friendly work environment, prioritising team well-being and clinical development. We have established support worker roles in our stroke and neuro rehab service and link in with support workers across the region for additional support and learning.
