Job summary

The RBFT is creating a Heath Data Institute(HDI) to harness and optimise the value and use of the health data generated by its front line staff, this is with the view to drive innovation and improve healthcare outcomes. The Health data institute offers an exciting opportunity for RBFT to progress even more effectively with its use of data and within the 3 year initial phase of the HDI, the main priority for year 1 and year 2 would be for RBFT to optimise and unlock the potential of the health data it holds to support our clinicians and operations staff; regarding the improvement of patient outcome and operational & clinical processes.

The Health Data Institute is an exciting development in the Trust's digital maturity and health data analytics journey, Over the next 3 years, our visions is: to become a nationally recognised institute with evidential impact of the use of advanced analytics in health care in improving clinical outcomes and productivity.

Main duties of the job

A new and innovative role of Head of Data Research & Advanced Analytics is being recruited in to the Health Data Institute (HDI) at the RBFT. The key responsibility of the post will be to provide leadership and management for the Data Research and Advanced Analytics function working with the Clinical and Informatics Directors of the HDI to shape and improve healthcare outcome and operational efficiency in the Royal Berkshire Hospital. It is expected that you will be responsible for delivering and overseeing a portfolio of impactful projects in health data research, translating findings into clinically actionable solutions used to understand, diagnose, prevent and treat disease.

You will support the development and management of the institute's Secure Data Environment and the projects and collaborators using the infrastructure.

Job responsibilities

Key activities will be to:

  • To lead and manage all teams that are responsible for the provision and support of the data research and advanced analytics service
  • Ensuring best practice is followed throughout the use of digital use of data
  • Provide strategic and operational guidance to RBFTs senior management teams and the HDIs committee on Advanced analytics, including predictive and prescriptive techniques and their limitations and ensuring that the benefits and risks of new technologies and methodologies are understood.
  • Ensure that the RBFT contributes and benefits from high-quality data research, including creating links between academic and operational staff across the BOB Integrated Care System.
  • Contribute to RBFT's Data Strategy and Data literacy programme, ensuring that the Trust uses modern technologies and practices to maximise the ability to use data to improve patient outcomes, operational efficiency and minimise costs.
  • Lead the Trust's response to Population Health analytics using the local, regional and international data assets available to the HDI in order to ensure that healthcare is equitable, safe and consistent with the objectives of the Trust and the broader healthcare system.
  • Support the Trusts response to the creation of Secure Data Environments as outlined in the Goldacre review
  • Ensure the Health data institute complies with its responsibilities for the safe, secure, and ethical use of data.
