Band 7 Clinical Training Therapeutic Radiographer
Fixed-term for 12 months to cover maternity leave.
We are recruiting for a Band 7 Clinical Training Therapeutic Radiographer role, here at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust (RBFT).

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our Radiotherapy department at the Berkshire Cancer Centre, for a crucial role that is integral to the clinical training and development of staff and learners.
The role of the Band 7 Clinical Training Radiographer provides a significant contribution to the development of staff and learners in the clinical setting. Its purpose is to underline the link between clinical education and clinical practice and to assist staff in bridging any gaps - either in terms of application, understanding or research.
The post holder will operate from an evidence based perspective, and will work with the Education & Workforce Lead Radiographer, and Managers in supporting and training staff and learners in their clinical practice.

Main duties of the job
The Berkshire Cancer Centre at the RBFT provides fully CHKS accredited Radiotherapy treatment facilities across both its Reading and Bracknell health spaces, and is currently equipped with two GE CT scanners, four Elekta Linear Accelerators, and a high dose Brachytherapy unit.
All treatment choices for patients are underpinned by the latest national guidance for radiotherapy services, including advanced treatments such as SABR, DIBH, VMAT and Adaptive radiotherapy.
Main duties of the job:
- To facilitate and maintain an effective training and learning environment within the clinical setting.
- To contribute to the organisation and delivery of clinical training and teaching for staff and students within a clinical setting.
- To ensure all qualified staff are given equal access to training opportunities and any associated available funding.
- To ensure the department Mandatory Training compliance rate meets the Trust targets.
- To promote the profession and support the recruitment and retention of staff and learners.

Since 2020 the department has also been recognized as a 'Centre of excellence' for its innovative provision of Surface Guided Radiotherapy, in alliance with Vision RT. Our diverse workforce of staff and learners all benefit from working with high quality equipment and optimum treatment techniques, whilst experiencing positive levels of clinical support and professional development in all aspects of their training and competence.
We currently provide great leadership opportunities for all our staff, with a focus on Radiographer led services, Brachytherapy treatments, and a comprehensive on treatment review service working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support.

- Someone who can competently train, support, mentor, supervise and assess trainees and learners to help deliver the needs of the Radiotherapy service.
- A positive professional with a great track record of demonstrating diverse leadership in supporting and enabling others to achieve their best potential.
- Someone who can provide constructive or critical feedback, or hold important conversations to develop staff or learners in the clinical setting, whilst building confidence, knowledge and motivation.
- A qualified HCPC registered Therapeutic Radiographer with Masters level experience (modules or full degree) to include a qualification in clinical practice, education, leadership or equivalent experience in supporting training or learning in the healthcare environment.
- An individual who can demonstrate a critical appreciation of best practice and patient safety, and the importance of equipping our learners and trainees with the right skills to deliver excellent patient care, whilst adhering to the Trust values.
The Post Holder will also be required to:
- Be qualified to act as an operator in Radiotherapy as defined by IR(ME)R 2017.
- Maintain all clinical competencies.
- Maintain an effective clinical presence on the treatment floor and/ or in pre-treatment to ensure that the direct clinical supervision, assessment and support of new staff and learners is consistently maintained across all areas, and over both Reading and Bracknell radiotherapy departments.
- Participate in machine run up and QA, and weekend on call services where required.
- Work flexible hours to meet the needs of the service including weekends as required.
- Work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders such as department colleagues, managers, Trust educators, and higher education institutions.
