Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to become a Physician Associate working across Renal at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and Primary care. The Physician Associate will support the clinical services within the University Department of Renal Medicine as well as working in primary care. The successful applicant will work alongside a team of consultants and a multidisciplinary team supported by the Consultants.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for day to day clinical work on the ward to be shared with the medical team.The post holder will be required to attend daily board rounds, assess and examine patients, present them on ward rounds, request investigations on EPR( electronic patient record) and interpret the results, and recommend treatment within a defined scope. In addition they will have to liaise with other specialties as required and complete the specialist referral paperwork.They will be expected to complete the electronic discharge letter (EDL) in a timely manner. The successful applicant will also be expected to lead and arrange family meetings to discuss clinical progress and also discharge plans.
It is envisaged that the role would be developed flexibly over time in accordance with the needs of the service and a subspecialty interest of the post holder can be developed. The appointee will undergo a period of training, supervision and accreditation to activities relevant to the renal department.
The post holder will be supervised by a designated consultant and will also have individual mentors to overview their career development. There will be opportunities to get involved in Berkshire Kidney Unit service improvement, and in research activities. The post holder will attend the regional PA teaching, and the renal department teaching, Grand Round, and be involved in the delivery of teaching..
