Job summary

The PACS team is a small IT department which works within the Radiology department. The team does hybrid working 2 days from home, 3 in the office. The post holder will have responsibility for the routine maintenance and daily housekeeping of Radiology Systems and associated data. The post holder will have responsibility for monitoring the system and its performance, reporting any issues or malfunctions to the Radiology Systems Manager. They will have responsibility for simple troubleshooting of the Radiology Systems in collaboration with the Radiology Systems Analysts, auditing and recording user errors; reporting of system errors to the Radiology Systems Manager. The post holder will provide liaison between the PACS office and the Trust, working to meet user and other stakeholder needs.

Main duties of the job

  1. Works to maintain the integrity, safe use and maintenance of the PACS database.
  2. Is able to undertake basic troubleshooting to identify faults and to accurately communicate these to system engineers as required.
  3. Has an understanding of Radiology equipment modalities and systems, and the interfaces relating to the Radiology Systems, e.g. primary care systems, reporting modules, and EPR.
  4. Supports the provision of first line support during planned down time/malfunction/outage of Radiology Systems. Liaises with Trust IT, Cerner, EPR back office, Insignia and Soliton engineers as appropriate.
  5. Monitors patient data, investigates and reports data quality incidents and takes appropriate action to avoid recurrence.
  6. Identifies unspecified images, determines cause and merges to correct patient folder.
  7. Manages user access to PACS / Soliton; sets up user logins for new starters and deactivates access for leavers.
  8. Receives X-Ray films from external sources; digitises film for storage on PACS.
  9. Receives images on CD from external sources; loads images onto PACS.
  10. Acts as a point of contact for enquiries to the PACS office.
  11. Receives requests for CD images from patients, from clinical staff both internal & external to the Trust and from solicitors; burns CDs, prints encryption letters and despatches in accordance with local guidelines.
  12. Monitors the Image Exchange Portal (IEP) worklist. Downloads images and creates orders on RIS as required; processes outgoing image requests
