Job summary
Professional/Technical
- Become an expert user of efinancials and any other internal Financial systems.
- Develop sound knowledge and understanding of the business activities of R&D and opportunities for development.
- Demonstrate ability on complex spreadsheets.
- Assist the R&D management team with the training and induction of new members of staff.

Main duties of the job
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in the annual budget setting processes for the R&D Directorate as well as individual research project financial flows as required.
- Develop a detailed understanding of the particular patterns of income / expenditure within R&D. Prepare reports on past patterns and forecasts of likely out-turn.
- Monitor income and expenditure within designated areas and identify variances from plan. Review these with the project teams and participate in research team discussions to consider the necessary remedial courses of action.
- Identify the information requirements of budget holders and become embedded in the R&D Directorate to support existing and future business opportunities and areas of growth.
- Contribute to internal transactional processes as required through the R&D Directorate. (Including, but not exclusively, bid development, contract support, grant allocation, raising of invoices and forecast reporting).
- Develop and maintain an authoritative knowledge and understanding of Financial Procedures, Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions in order to ensure acceptance and adherence within designated areas.
