Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Physician Associate to join the Department of Urology at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. This is a permanent post working alongside our current well-established Physician Associate. The successful applicant will work between the Urology ward, Procedure Department and Outpatients Department alongside a team of junior doctors and a multidisciplinary team.This unique opportunity will enable the successful applicant to provide expert assistance in the provision of a high quality, patient centered service. The post holder is expected to participate in all aspects of the patient pathway as appropriate and will be expected to perform delegated duties with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge. The role will be supervised by a designated consultant and will also have individual mentors to oversee their career development. It is an opportunity to shape the role of Physician Associates in the department and the hospital for the future.
Main duties of the job
Take detailed histories from patients or their next of kin and perform structured physical examinations. Record the findings and formulate differential diagnosesReview new patients admitted to the ward and provide subsequent management of their care in conjunction with the medical team. Order appropriate investigations, interpret results, form a list of differential diagnoses and recommend treatment accordingly.Perform diagnostic/ therapeutic procedures subject to training and experience. These include (but not exclusively): venepuncture, cannulation, arterial blood gases, injections, ECG, urethral catheterization, nasogastric tube insertion.Ensure documentation in the Enhanced Recovery Pathway is legible and clear Ensure all Care Bundles (Falls, Catheter etc.) are completed according to the TRUST GuidelinesConsolidate, develop and maintain specialist medical knowledge. Keep up to date with current guidelines and maintain best practice.Work with the medical team to achieve the targets for CQUINS each yearSupport and contribute to timely discharge planning by attending the morning board rounds and 'afternoon huddles', attending the best interest meetings for complex discharges and timely completion of the EDLs
