Job summary
We are looking to appointa Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist at Band 7 level to join our echo team.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy department striving to deliver the highest quality of care to our patients. We are a BSE accredited department since 2015and perform approximately 11,000 transthoracic echoes per year. We are based within the hub of the Royal Berkshire Hospital (Reading) and deliver clinics at West Berkshire Community Hospital (Newbury). We area close-knit team well supported by the Consultant Cardiologistswho are active in supporting the echo service and exploringnovel ways of working to optimise service delivery.
Main duties of the job
Applicants would be expected tohave full BSE transthoracic accreditation (or EACVI equivalent) and have some managerial experience to help drive delivery of the echo service on a daily basis.
Additional expectations are:
- To be able to scan and report independently for both inpatients and outpatients.
- Superviseand deliver training for cardiac physiologists, STP and ETP trainees, and CardiologyRegistrars.
- Participate fullyin our range of well-established specialist clinics:
- Physiologist-led valve clinic
- Physiologist-led exercise stress echo
- Adult Congenital echo (a thriving monthly clinic run by visiting Cardiologists from the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford)
- Inherited disorders clinic
- Cardio-oncology clinic
- Cardio-obstetrics clinics
- Transoeophageal echocardiography (Consultant led).
- Deputise for echo lead in their absence.
- Attendance at weekly echo MDT meetings (which are very well attended and supported).
- Willing to support delivery of clinics at spoke sites (i.e. West Berkshire Community Hospital in Newbury

This was granted by the Health Innovation Partnership who offers a programme for collaborative research and education innovation funding recognising clinical, teaching and research excellence. As a department we continue to invest in our service and staff. This includes a current project to improve the space in the department to provide a more relaxed and spacious area for the team to enjoy their breaks. We are also investing in new equipment (ECHO machines) to improve service delivery and ensure our staff have access to the best possible technology to enhance the quality of care delivered to our patients.
