Acute Paediatrics
Wards - There are 2 general paediatric wards, Lion & Dolphin, at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, situated alongside each other and sharing a playroom. Dolphin ward is a 23 bed ward containing 5 high dependency beds, and Lion ward has capacity for 23 beds. They take all acute medical, surgical and orthopaedic admissions; and there are special suites for oncology patients.
Children's Emergency Department - This is alongside the adult Emergency Department and is where all walk-ins and GP referrals are seen. This is where a ST 1-3 is based with registrar support.
Paediatric short stay area - If children seen in Children's A & E who need a period of observation up to 6 hours before a decision to admit/discharge them is made. This area is opposite to the paediatric wards.

This is a post for a 10 PA Consultant Paediatrician at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder will share the responsibility for the management of general and neonatal paediatrics at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. The post holder will be expected to take part in the consultant of the week rota for general paediatrics and neonates . The out of hours on call commitment for both general paediatrics and the Neonates is one in six. Clinical responsibility and managerial leadership within the Paediatric Department will be shared by the Consultant paediatricians

The post holder will share clinical and managerial leadership within the Paediatric Department with the present consultant paediatricians. The post holder will take part in the consultant of the week in general paediatrics 1 in14, the post holder will cover both acute general paediatrics and neonatology on a 1 in 6 rota on call (negotiable if not adequately qualified). An office base with secretarial and administrative support will be provided at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation trust. If the Applicant does not have tertiary neonatal experience within ST6-8 training, then the neonatal component of the post is negotiable.
