Senior Clinical Fellow in Geriatric Medicine - ST3+ Level
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Geriatric Medicine department as a Senior Clinical Fellow.
The post is to commence 05/08/2026 for a period of 12 months. The post does not carry an on call requirement but this could be negotiated if preferred by the successful candidate, subject to availability.
There is opportunity to contribute to the delivery of our undergraduate teaching programme and whist we expect some engagement with this from all successful candidates, the level of involvement can be tailored to individuals' development needs and interests.
The successful candidate could join one of the teams at either the Northern General or Royal Hallamshire hospitals.

Main duties of the job
Clinical Duties
The post holder will work closely with colleague to provide safe and holistic patient care.
Teaching Duties
All post holders will be expected to contribute to teaching and educational activities within the department. It is anticipated the majority of the educational activities delivered will be on the ward (at the bedside) rather than in non-clinical classroom formats. However, there are a number of Geriatric medicine classroom-based teaching days across the year to which we would also encourage post holders with appropriate aptitude for teaching to contribute. We also have other trainee healthcare professionals in the department (trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners for example) and opportunities to organise and deliver bespoke teaching activities for these groups may arise.

- Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise
- Basic Medical Degree
- Full Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP)

- Valid Advanced Life Support qualification
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Minimum 24 months experience of working in the NHS in a fixed term or substantive post.
- Minimum 6 months experience of working in Geriatric Medicine in the NHS
- Successful completion of Foundation training or equivalent
- Knowledge of common geriatric medicine presentations and experience of managing these with an appropriate degree of autonomy for the grade
- Experience of managing patients at the end of life including ability to have independent discussion of resuscitation and advanced care planning
Desirable
- Current/very recent experience of working in Geriatric Medicine.
- Experience of OOH work in GIM in the NHS at a level at or above IMT3
- Familiarity with STH EPR
- Experience of MDT working including leading board rounds on a day to day basis
