Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Geriatric Medicine department as a Clinical Fellow working at ST1/2 Level.
A number of posts are available, for commencement in August 2025, for 12 months duration. All posts will include an element of out of hours working. Where individuals have the relevant experience and competencies then this will include contribution to the general internal medicine hospital out of hours rota. Individuals who have not been able to gain those competencies whilst working as clinical fellows in the directorate will be expected to contribute in other ways, for example Frailty Unit evening or weekend shifts. This will be discussed at the point of offer.
The successful candidates would join one of the ward teams at either the Northern General or Royal Hallamshire hospitals. Some posts may move between wards and teams depending on the needs of the directorate at the time, for example to staff a winter surge ward.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Duties
The post holder will work closely with colleagues to provide safe and holistic patient care.
Teaching Duties All post holders will be expected to contribute to teaching and educational activities within the department. A greater proportion of these would be expected from post-holders choosing a pattern than includes 10% non-clinical time. It is anticipated the majority of the educational activities delivered will be on the ward (at the bedside) rather than in non-clinical classroom formats. However, there are a number of Geriatric medicine classroom-based teaching days across the year to which we would also encourage post holders with appropriate aptitude for teaching to contribute. We also have other trainee healthcare professionals in the department (trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners for example) and opportunities to organise and deliver bespoke teaching activities for these groups may arise.
