Job summary

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint Junior Clinical Fellows in Stroke/Neuro to join our team to cover Maternity leave vacancy. The appointment is to commence ASAP for a fixed term period (until 31/12/2026).

This post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a 'training post', full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. A minimum of 6 months clinical experience in an NHS post is essential for these appointments.

The duties of this post are equivalent to Foundation Year 2 / Core Trainee level.

Main duties of the job

This role offers a diverse range of responsibilities, including:

Taking patient histories and performing examinations in outpatient clinics (TIA and acute neurology clinics), followed by presenting cases to the consultant.

Prescribing medications, arranging appropriate investigations, and preparing discharge summaries, including discharge medications (TTOs).

Attending ward rounds, documenting notes, and performing general ward duties, such as managing sick or deteriorating patients, updating relatives, and following up on test results.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop a broad range of clinical skills while working within a supportive and dynamic team

Referrals primarily come from GPs, paramedics, and A&E, involving patients presenting with neurological or stroke symptoms.   • Basic Medical Degree (MBChB) or equivalent
  • Valid Advance Life Support (ALS) Certificate by the date of application

Desirable

  • MRCP Part 1 or equivalent by the date of application

Clinical experience

Essential

  • 1 year of clinical experience post-qualification and evidence of achievements of Foundation Year 1 competencies from a UKFPO attained foundation programme or equivalent, in line with GMC Standards/Good Medical practice
  • A minimum of 6 months clinical experience of working in the NHS (not Clinical Attachment)

Desirable

  • Completion of UK Foundation training (FY2 level) or evidence of Certificate B as equivalent
