Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to to join Ward 2 . The post holder will join the Senior Nursing Team, providing leadership and expertise within the Inpatient Department to all patients under the care of Consultants at Weston Park Hospital and within the Cancer Network. This will include delivering a range of anti-cancer therapies and supportive care to patients.
To support this development an exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated, experienced, creative and forward thinking individuals to join the team.
The successful candidate will support the Ward Manager of Ward 2 with management, leadership and development of the unit always ensuring patients receive the highest standards of care.
The post holder must possess excellent communication, leadership, interpersonal and organisational skills alongside a vision for service development.
The post holder will work in close liaison with the Matron and senior sisters ensuring the provision of high quality care within the resources available.
An informal visit is recommended.
Main duties of the job
Support Senior Sister / Charge Nurse in ensuring the highest standard and quality of nursing care is delivered.
Undertake and support in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for symptom support or end of life care.
Exercise judgement in assessing wide ranging patient problems and promote options for optimum patient care.
Maintain effective communication with all patients, carers and members of the Healthcare team.
Act sensitively, confidentially and with empathy in demonstrating understanding of wide ranging physical and emotional needs.
Work unsupervised, in the community setting within Trust Guidelines, Policies and Procedures and the NMC codes of conduct, seeking advice on non-routine matters from line managers or Duty Matron.
Ensure accurate, contemporaneous and timely care records, both written and electronic.
Adhere to infection control policies and practice.
Exercise professional judgement by applying skills and knowledge to the safe ordering, custody and administration of drugs.
Provide specialist advice to patients, carers, healthcare assistants and students.
Develop and provide specialised nursing care to a diverse range of patients and support to carers on the ward.
Care for acutely unwell patients.
Support patients and families in preparation for discharge or around the end of life and bereavement.
Lead a team of qualified, support and student team members.
