Job summary

A vacancy exists for an enthusiastic person to work in a group providing maintenance and repair to over 50,000 medical devices to stringent quality standards. This post requires the successful candidate to have a methodical approach with attention to detail which is vital to ensure the safe maintenance, calibration and repair of medical devices.

The candidate should be able to demonstrate a practical aptitude with good hand eye coordination to enable fine adjustments to delicate medical equipment to be carried out and be able to work as a member of a multidiscipline team.

Main duties of the job

Working within an ISO 9001 Quality system, providing a highly specialised rapid response service to direct patient connected medical equipment.

This work includes repairing faults, first, second, third and fourth line maintenance and installation to an ever increasing range of highly complex, specialised and sophisticated electronic, electro-medical, laser, ultrasound, scientific, analytical, electro-hydraulic, electro-pneumatic, mechanical and medical gas systems.

This service is provided to this Trust and throughout the Sheffield area and also extends outside the area to patients homes.

About us

Clinical Engineering are in the Directorate of Medical Imaging, Medical Physics (MIMP). we have three workshops across the city, these are in the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Northern General Hospital and the Sheffield Children's Hospital. Our engineers could be based in any workshop and will be expected to work across the city on occasions but will have a base.

Clinical Engineering have over 60 staff, including administrators, porters engineers and managers. Our core hours are Monday to Friday 08.30-16.30 but we do have a flexible working agreement that engineers can join after an induction period.

There is a free shuttle bus between the two main sites for staff. Technical training courses will be provided where necessary.

  • A lower-second class honours degree in Clinical Engineering or other related subject such as electronics, electrical, physics, IT, computing and mechanical engineering.

Desirable

  • Professional registration in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Incorporated Engineer or Registered Clinical Technologist).
  • Specialist training in the operation & maintenance of highly complex medical devices.

Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in the repair, calibration, and maintenance of complex electro-mechanical, electronic, mechanical, IT, and/or computer network systems.
  • Proven ability to diagnose faults, implement effective corrective actions, and ensure all equipment functions safely, reliably, and in full compliance with relevant regulatory and quality standards.

Desirable

  • Experience of medical device maintenance including fault finding and repair.
