Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Specialist Physiotherapist

The closing date is 17 December 2025

Job summary

Are you a qualified NHS Physiotherapist looking for your next career step? Want to enhance your experience across different patients and care settings and develop as a clinical leader in one of the UK's largest hospital Trusts?

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Specialist Physiotherapist to work on a yearly rotation between our Integrated Community Team - Therapy (ICTT) in the West of Sheffield, and our Acute Medicine Therapy Team based at the Northern General Hospital.

Your first rotation will be spent with the Acute Medicine Therapy team working alongside a team of other Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and support staff, to deliver acute and ongoing care, including early assessment and prevention of deconditioning, urgent respiratory care and supporting plans for timely discharge. Covering a variety of different wards across the hospital, this is great chance to work with wide range of patients and develop your experience of different specialties, including Geriatric Medicine, Frailty, Parkinson's disease and palliative care.

Main duties of the job

Second rotation will be spent with the ICTT team out in the community, where you'll provide excellent physio care and support to patients with Respiratory, Musculoskeletal, Orthopaedic, and Neurological conditions. The service works closely with colleagues across health, social care and voluntary services, to provide integrated care which promotes quality of life, independence and meets the needs of patients with long-term conditions, while reducing demand on hospital services. With therapies mainly delivered in patients own homes, you'll be able to be able to spend part of your time working from home or hotdesking from the community base.

Throughout your time on both rotations, you'll have the guidance and supervision of our clinical specialists and wider team, to offer you support, help you manage your caseload and complex patients, and help develop your specific area of interest and skills to further your career.

We also offer excellent in-service training programs to support staff to continue with postgraduate training and developing clinical and leadership skills, including developing and delivering education, supervision, mentorship, and service developments. There's also the chance to get involved in service improvement and research projects, new innovations and the latest digital technologies, and more.

About us

We're looking for someone who enjoys working in a multidisciplinary team to deliver the best possible care for patients, has excellent communication skills, and ideally has post-registration experience within an acute or community setting. You'll also need access to a car due to community working.

We're also proud to be a friendly, caring, and supportive team, who help each other to manage caseloads, deliver the best for our patients, and enjoy catching up over a good fuddle, social lunch, and the odd bake-off.

You will be working for an organisation which values and respects all of its staff and the community it serves. The Trust is a leader in the NHS and research sectors and provides excellent benefits for its staff. This includes commitments to professional development but also many policies to support employees in balancing their personal and professional lives.
