Job summary
One Whole-Time Consultant Plastic Hand Surgeon to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at Sheffield Hand Centre, Northern General Hospital.
Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the posts; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
Main duties of the job
The appointee, together with Consultant colleagues, will be responsible for the provision of the Elective Hand and Trauma Reconstructive Service. This will include microsurgery for both upper and lower limb reconstruction.
The appointee will undertake outpatient clinics for both elective and non-elective patients, trauma and elective operating sessions, ward round duties and take part in an on-call rota for general Plastic Surgery which includes Hands, soft tissue trauma including lower limb, and Burns (specialist Burns Surgeons provide overriding care for all Burns patients but emergency cover may be required when on-call). On call cover also includes Sheffield Children's Hospital (situated adjacent to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital) but there are no elective Children's Hospital duties associated with this post.
