Job summary

We are seeking a talented Physician Associate to join the Respiratory Medicine team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest and most successful healthcare employers in the UK offering fantastic opportunities for training, development and career progression. One 6-month fixed term or secondment opportunity has arisen in the department.

Physician Associates to play a key role in the management of patients, support effective and efficient functioning of the service and contribute to wider service developments. The post holder will be accountable for ensuring that high quality patient care is always delivered. The physician associate will be supervised by a designated consultant with regular meetings to support on-going development within the role.

The successful candidate will be trained in Acute and ward based respiratory medicine and dependent on skills and experience, out-patient clinics.

Main duties of the job

Manage a caseload of patients as determined by the consultant, exercising a high level of professional judgement and expertise when delivering care. This could include taking medical histories, undertaking physical examinations, discharge planning, making complex diagnoses and explaining conditions during consultations.

Assess and examine patients, initiate, and interpret investigations and recommend treatment

Exercise a high degree of personal autonomy in assessing, managing, planning and co-ordinating care for patients in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team

Develop extensive specialist knowledge and experience within the speciality, acting as a resource to the wider clinical team

Ensure you understand and comply with all departmental, service and Trust Policies and Procedures at all times, cascading any information to staff as and when appropriate and required.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of a maximum of twelve months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder.
