Job summary
The post holder will be part of a dedicated team of screeners that carry out newborn hearing screening on all Sheffield resident babies. The NHS Newborn Hearing Screening Programme (NHSP) aims to identify moderate, severe and profound deafness and hearing impairment in newborn babies.
Please note Working days Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm. Occasionally may be offered weekends.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will Identify babies that need screening each day with the Smart4Hearing IT system and liaise effectively with parents to ensure eligible babies are offered the newborn hearing screen in a timely fashion. All hearing screeners are responsible for explaining the screen to parents in a clear and sensitive manner and accurately recording risk factors and demographic information as required.
The screener will need to Perform the hearing screen where the baby may have a range of different medical conditions or social circumstances, i.e. in Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) or at Sheffield Children's Hospital.
