Job summary

The Haematology Directorate is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and motivated Operational Manager to join their leadership team on its journey to modernise and improve processes to deliver outstanding patient care. The service is fast-paced and encompasses a number of clinical areas, including Haemato-Oncology, Haemostasis and Thrombosis and Anticoagulation. It has also recently joined the Specialised Cancer Services Directorate to form a new Care Group (HaSC), with Operations Director Richard Maxted. With this change in the Senior Leadership team, now is a unique time to join the Directorate and help shape our ambitious vision for the future.

As the Operational Manager for Haematology, you will be responsible for providing leadership and management of all non-clinical services within the Haematology Directorate. You will ensure resources are available and deployed in the right place, at the right time to ensure delivery of activity and finance targets. You will also support the development, and implementation plans for service developments in line with Trust and Commissioner requirements.

The Haematology Directorate is currently engaged in several large improvement and modernisation projects which aim to improve patient experience and the delivery of clinical care - therefore it is an exciting time to join the service and provide leadership and drive innovation in a dynamic environment.

Main duties of the job

As the Haematology Operational Manager, you will provide supportive leadership to the Admin & Clerical team across the Directorate, ensuring staff feel valued and understand their contribution to the delivery of the patient centred services the Directorate provides.

You will work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership team to ensure resources are available and utilised effectively to provide high standards of service, teaching and research, in a patient-centred environment.

You will be responsible for attainment of financial, activity & waiting time targets. Close collaboration with Finance, HR, Information Services and other central departments will be critical to ensuring each service functions effectively in these key areas. Fostering effective working relationships with clinical teams and ensuring a multidisciplinary approach to service provision and planning will be critical.

There are two Directorates within Haematology and Specialised Cancer Care Group (HaSC) - Haematology and Specialised Cancer Services.

In addition to outpatient services, within Haematology, there are inpatient services comprising of 3 wards, all based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, P3 and P4 and O1 with 47 beds dedicated to the management of haematology patients. These include 29 side rooms, 12 of which are HEPA filtered for all levels of Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Leukemic induction therapy. There is a dedicated day-case facility, an Apheresis Unit (managed by the NHSBT) and the Centre for Haemophilia and Thrombosis. This provides an opportunity to support improvement and development across a wide range of services, including outpatient, inpatient and day case. Haematology is also an exciting Clinical Directorate where innovative treatments are provided to the surrounding population, as well as from across the UK.
