Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Occupational Therapist to join the Burns, plastics and orthopaedic team. The post is Permanent and is based in the therapy out patient department and the Northern General Hospital.

The post holder will work alongside the Clinical Specialists within the team with the opportunity for the development of skills within the rehabilitation of upper limb orthopaedic and plastic conditions along side supporting the fracture bracing service and burns unit.

Main duties of the job

  • Working with a team of Occupational therapists and Physiotherapists to provide a specialised service to the hand centre, plastic surgery ward, fracture bracing clinic and burns unit.
  • Deliver high quality, specialised assessments and treatments including splinting.
  • Contribute to the development of the therapy workforce including supervision of staff and educating students.
  • Contribute to operational management and service improvement.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for the maximum period of 12 months. Where there is potential, the secondment/fixed term contract may finish early, or in the first instance, the secondment/fixed term contract may be extended due to the internal/external secondment of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and secondments in relation to the substantive post holder.

The Musculoskeletal Directorate (MSK) provide services including Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, Pain Management, Metabolic Bone, Hand Centre, Physioworks, Staff Physiotherapy Service, MSK Hospital based Therapy Services and Podiatric Surgery.

The hospital based therapy team consists of over 110 whole time equivalent staff members who work together to deliver excellent patient care and sharing learning and experience.
