Job summary
The appointment is to commence ASAP for a fixed term period of 12 months from the date of commencement. FRCS or an overseas equivalent is essential, with a keen plastic surgery subspecialty interest and experience. The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a 'training post', full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required by the date of commencement.
The post is open to applicants requiring GMC sponsorship via the Royal College led MTI route. If the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required and supported. The duties of this post are appropriate to an individual working as a middle grade registrar in plastic surgery.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will carry out their duties under the supervision of the plastic surgery consultants to gain an understanding of the breadth of the specialty. They will attend both trauma and elective outpatient clinics and theatres, review of post operative patients in clinics and the ward as necessary. The timetable will be adjusted as reasonably possible to meet the needs of the appointed practitioner to enable gaining exposure to the breadth of the subspecialty with a regular review.

Ward rounds and trauma conference are held daily at the Northern General Hospital. Under the guidance of the Consultant Staff, the post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of elective and emergency patients as well on the Burns Unit. The successful candidate will, subject to competency, have some independent operating, in the form of minor operating lists, for skin cancer and for trauma, as well as access to lists in the main theatres. Experience in ward rounds, out-patients and operating lists will be obtained at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. On call commitments will cover both the adult hospitals as well as paediatric trauma at the Sheffield Childrens Hospital.
