The successful applicants can expect to work in all areas of our busy pharmacy department in both acute and specialty settings. They will be joining our team of over 450 committed and professional staff helping to ensure that the patients of Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust receive the best pharmaceutical care available.
A Pre-registration trainee pharmacy technician apprentice is employed on a fixed term Apprentice Agreement for 24 months. This contract is designed to give you a set of competencies, work experience and a qualification that could lead to employment within the pharmaceutical sector. Last year over 90% of all apprentices completing apprenticeships with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals went on to work with us. Also the skills you develop will support your ongoing career progression.
You will complete a 24 month training program and as part of your apprenticeship you will study the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians.
The apprenticeship will be undertaken in collaboration with Bradford college on a day release basis over 2 years. There will be virtual classroom sessions taught by both college tutors and specialists from the workplace.
You must also complete a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your learning and skills in practice in accordance with the apprenticeship framework.
Main duties of the job
Working under the direction of registered Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians within multidisciplinary teams Pre-registration trainee pharmacy technician Apprentices will assist in the provision and preparation of medicines to meet the needs of all patients.
Through your working practices you will apply respect and confidentiality, work well in a team, be courteous, and professional, maintain a safe working environment, contribute to the safeguarding of patients working accurately when preparing and dispensing medicines.
You will need to be hard working and an excellent team worker. Good communication is essential. You must also be able to recognise and work within your own limitations.
This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 24 months due to this being an apprenticeship/training programme. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts.
A learner/applicant must be a UK, EEA, or EU resident for at least the past three years to undertake an apprenticeship training programme.
The apprentice allowance as specified in the Minimum Wage Regulations will be paid for the first 12 months. The rate will increase after 12 months in line with these regulations for anyone that is age 19 or over.
