Job summary
The successful candidate will be required to carry out a variety of duties within the MRI department to assist radiographers, nurses, radiologists and patients as required. Working as part of a team is a necessity to ensure the day runs smoothly. They must be patient focussed and be able to advocate for the patients if/when required.
They will also need to be able to deal with telephone enquiries from a variety of sources, prioritise their workload and work unsupervised when necessary.
It is essential to have a good level of general education and basic understanding of IT. Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are also an essential requirement for this post.
Working Pattern: 3x 12.5hrs (7:20 -20:30) includes weekend working.
Main duties of the job
To provide a high quality, responsive MRI service as part of a multi-disciplinary team, whilst maintaining a high standard of patient care.
Assisting members of the MRI multidisciplinary team in delivering a high standard of direct patient care and associated duties. To ensure that safe practice is carried out in accordance with departmental protocols.
Tasks may include; patient care, organisation of lists, effective communication with other departments, support for patients, moving and handling tasks, cannulation (after training), preparing rooms for examinations, taking patient obs, restocking equipment, chaperoning during examinations, portering of patients when required, booking and coordinating appointments.
The working day starts at 07:20am and finishes at 20:30, working 3 shifts through the 7 day working week, including weekends and working across our 3 busy sites (Royal Hallamshire, Northern General & Weston Park Hospitals). Our department covers 7 MRI scanners and all specialist areas of scanning.

Essential
- NVQ3/ FHEQ level 3 or equivalent or willing to work towards.
- Care Certificate from an approved awarder, or commitment to successful completion the Care Certificate within 12 weeks from start of employment.
- 5 GCSE (grade 9-4 or A- C) English and Maths at grade C or above (or relevant equivalent qualification or level of ability which would include Functional Skills Level 2) or Level 2 healthcare apprenticeship.
Desirable
- 3 A levels or Health and Science T level or equivalent level 3 qualification or level of ability which would include Functional Skills Level 2)
Experience

- Experience of working as a clinical imaging assistant or clinical support worker.
- Experience or knowledge of department procedures.

- Ability to perform basic routine tasks such as checking deliveries, completing paperwork, and storing stock correctly, checking availability of reports/clinical information and managing patient documentation.
- Knowledge and experience in a range of delegated clinical imaging duties relevant to the work area e.g., recording blood pressure, pregnancy tests, interventional procedures, document specimen, drawing up correct drugs for procedure, including undertaking IV canulation depending on departmental needs.

- Knowledge of performing basic life support.
