Job summary

We are looking to appoint a whole time Specialist Doctor in Rehabilitation Medicine to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Centre, Northern General Hospital.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be responsible for the provision of acute management and long-term follow-up of patients admitted to the Centre. The successful candidate will share equitable responsibilities with his professional colleagues and will actively contribute to the governance arrangements of the Department.The appointee will be expected to conduct multi-disciplinary ward rounds, goal planning and to see out-patients. They will be expected to participate in research and teaching as well as participating in a 1 in 6 on-call rota.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Medical Degree from a recognised UK or overseas university or institution.
  • Membership of UK Royal Colleges or equivalent overseas qualification.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council with a licence to practice.
  • A minimum of 12 years full time Medical work (or equivalent gained on a part-time basis) since obtaining a primary medical qualification at least 6 of which will be in Rehabilitation Medicine/Spinal Cord Medicine at a senior level including Specialty Doctor, closed SAS grades and Consultant/Locum Consultant.

  • MD or PhD or equivalent Fellowship or equivalent

  • Good written communication skills

  • An understanding of the issues of clinical effectiveness and audit
  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
