Job summary

Whole-Time Locum Consultant in General Internal Medicine with an interest in Respiratory Medicine to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Northern General Hospital (NGH). This is a fixed term post up to 2 years.

The interview date will be on the 9th January 2025

This is a whole-time (10 PA) post and has been developed as part of a broader ongoing re-organisation and expansion of the Department of Medicine and improvement of the care of General Internal Medicine patients. The department manages a large number of both specialist and general medical wards. In addition, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is one of the largest Trusts in the country and provides extensive specialist care both locally and regionally to patients with respiratory medicine conditions.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues be responsible for the provision of general medical care to medical in-patients at the Northern General Hospital.

The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract.

The allocation of time between the various duties of the post will be open to some adjustment in consultation with Consultant colleagues and the employing Trust.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Full MRCP.
  • UK applicant must hold of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General (Internal) Medicine and Respiratory medicine (or equivalent) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • Non UK applicants should have completed comparable training in a GIM Specialty and should be eligible to apply for Specialist registration via the Portfolio Pathway (CESR) route.

Desirable

  • MD or PhD or equivalent

Clinical experience

Essential

  • Ability to work as an independent consultant in GIM/respiratory medicine

Research

Essential

  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

  • Publications in Peer reviewed journals.

Teaching and Training

Essential

  • Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels

CPD
