Job summary

Whole-time Locum Consultant Neurologist to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and providing an outpatient outreach service to District General Hospitals. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will predominantly cover Doncaster Royal Infirmary. There are additional vacancies potentially at Chesterfield Royal Hospital (CRH) and Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BDGH) which will be discussed with the successful appointee as needed. This post is fixed term for 6 months.

We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

Appointments are made to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the person appointed is required to be sufficiently flexible to undertake their main clinical duties at any of the sites within the Region and/or to change their base hospital.

The appointee, together with consultant colleagues, will be responsible for the provision of adult neurological services to DRI/CRH/BDGH and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. The appointee will be expected to contribute to the routine outpatient general neurological workload at DRI/CRH/BDGH, provide a ward liaison service at DGH, as well as general and sub-specialty clinics in Sheffield.

The person appointed will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence. They will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care and the proper functioning of the Department.
