Job summary

A unique and exciting leadership opportunity has arisen within our high profile Clinical Engineering Team.

We are looking for a talented individual with a proven record of success, to manage our comprehensive Trust-wide medical equipment maintenance and management service, lead our medical device innovation activities and chair the Trust's Medical Devices Management Group. The post-holder will lead a team of over 80 staff and will bring extensive experience gained either in the NHS, wider health sector or a relevant commercial/industrial background.

You will be responsible for ensuring that our Clinical Engineering services rank amongst the best in the country and for creating new opportunities for innovation for patient benefit.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a registered professional in a relevant technical area with the ability to deliver excellent, strategic and operational leadership, and ideally with a combined experience of complex asset management and medical device development. You will have well-developed stakeholder and general management skills and demonstrable ability to build and work within high performing, diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.

Our specialised medical equipment maintenance and management function is supported by a staff group of 70+, with a budget of £8.1M. It includes equipment ranging from basic monitoring to highly complex imaging and therapy equipment, with a value in excess of £100M. The post-holder will be responsible for the strategic planning of this service at organisational level. Our medical device innovation (MDI) workshops house complex electronic and mechanical equipment and services include innovative design and build, engineering and regulatory consultancy. We operate externally-audited Quality Management Systems, and as a leading centre, have a role in training the next generation of engineers.

The Trust hosts a highly successful NIHR HealthTech Research Centre (Devices for Dignity), which operates nationally and is supported by the MDI group. We also provide national network leadership for 14 NIHR HealthTech Research Centres across England.

  • Degree-level knowledge/experience of leadership, strategy and management
  • Honours degree (minimum 2ii) or equivalent in Engineering/Physics or an allied subject
  • Postgraduate education to doctoral level in Engineering/Physics or a relevant subject area or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development
  • Registered professional in a relevant technical area

  • HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist or Chartered Engineer status
