An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Safeguarding Midwife to join the Jessop Wing, Safeguarding Team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
We are looking to recruit an inspirational and highly motivated Midwife.The successful candidate will demonstrate Safeguarding knowledge within the remit of Maternity and desirably Neonatal services. A Think Family approach is essential.The post holder will report to and support the Lead Midwife for Safeguarding at Jessop Wing and act as a conduit between staff and external agencies and stakeholders involved in Safeguarding Children and Child Protection.
The Safeguarding Midwife will be a visible and credible individual within the Jessop Wing, sharing specialist knowledge, and advice to staff in the clinical environment.

Main duties of the job
- To provide care co-ordination for vulnerable mothers and their families
- To provide safe and effective midwifery care
- To maintain a high standard of contemporaneous documentation
- To plan allocate and supervise the work of a team
- To take charge of the ward regularly if working generically
- Support the Senior Midwife in ensuring the highest standard and quality of midwifery care is delivered
- To ensure that local safeguarding procedures are adhered to and specialist plans are in place
- To support and offer specialist advice to staff caring for vulnerable women and their babies

The maternity unit has over 6800 births per year and is a Regional Tertiary Maternity Service with a Level 3 Neonatal Unit of 44 cots. A tertiary Gynae-Oncology service and a changing Gynaecology Service, which includes an Assisted Conception Unit, complete the services within the Directorate.
