Job summary
We are looking for an individual to join our team of Food Service Assistants, working in our food service areas catering for patients, staff and visitors.
The role includes food services for patients, in dining rooms and deli bars, cash handling using a till, simple food preparation and display and general cleaning duties.
The Catering Department utilises the expertise of the caterers and the clinical experience of the dietitians to ensure that patients receive high quality, appropriate and nutritionally adequate food. The Department is also responsible for the food service to staff and visitors through its outlets in dining rooms, vending machines and delicatessen bars.
The Catering Department provides training and advice in food hygiene and food service matters to other health professionals within the Trust.
This post is based at Northern General Hospital, although working across sites may be required.
Main duties of the job
- Assist with the collection of meal insulated trolleys from drop off points in the hospital and the delivery to wards and regeneration zones as required.
- Check meal deliveries to ensure correct meal requirements, quantity and quality, including labels. Take action as required in the case of any discrepancies against the ward order.
- Load meals into regen ovens in line with departmental procedures.
- Record all food and food storage temperatures in accordance with departmental requirements (not limited to but including goods received, cooked temperatures, fridge and freezer temperatures).
- Preparation and setting up of all serveries including laying out correct portioning equipment.
- Service of meals to customers including correct portioning and attention to excellent presentation of food.
- Clear down trays, trolleys, crockery and associated food service equipment from food service areas, meeting rooms etc.
- Use of cash registers within the Department, cash up and banking of takings in accordance with Departmental procedures ensuring the strictest security of stock.
