Job summary
The post holder will provide an efficient secretarial/personal assistant service to the Consultants and their team in respect of NHS work within the Respiratory Medicine Directorate.
The successful candidate will be required to work flexibly with or alongside other medical secretarial staff, consultants and their teams and other teams as required.
The post holder will be the primary point of contact for administrative issues relating to the patients pathway of care.
Main duties of the job
Within the role, the post holder will be required to support the wider team during periods of leave. In addition to general secretarial cover, this is anticipated to include providing comprehensive administrative support and cover to MDT meetings, ensuring the effective management of accurate and timely data to enable clinical decision-making at MDT meetings and onward coordination of patient pathways.

Respiratory Medicine is one of three Directorates within the Gastroenterology, Respiratory and Diabetes and Endoscopy directorate. There are four Specialties within Respiratory Medicine; Adult Cystic Fibrosis, Chest Medicine, Pulmonary Vascular Disease and Respiratory Physiology (Pulmonary Function Unit).
Respiratory Medicine is a tertiary centre and as such has a regional Adult Cystic Fibrosis service and is home to the UK's largest Pulmonary Hypertension service in the Pulmonary Vascular Disease Unit at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The Directorate also offers specialist clinics in Lung Disease, Occupational Lung Disease, Severe Asthma, and Bronchiectasis, as well as COPD, Lung Cancer, Pleural, General Respiratory and TB clinics. Central to the delivery of effective patient care is the ability to provide lung function testing, which is carried out by the Pulmonary Function Unit (PFU) at Northern General Hospital. PFU also offers a physiology-led diagnostic testing and onward treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea and other sleep disorders.
