We are looking for a highly motivated, committed and innovative individual to lead a large, dedicated team of nursing and support staff in the delivery of excellence in nursing care within our Endoscopy Unit at The Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

This is a friendly new unit with 6 procedure rooms that makes up half of the Endoscopy Department at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. The other half (with 4 procedure rooms plus ERCP) is on the Northern General Hospital Site where the acute bleed service is also carried out.

Main duties of the job

In order to manage a large nursing team excellent communication is essential, as you will be expected to communicate effectively across multiple interfaces with your team, the Senior Sister at the Northern General hospital site, Patients, Matron, Consultants, Nurse Endoscopists, Service managers, Rota co-ordinators , Admin team, Decontamination team, Pre assessment Nurse team and other professionals working within and from outside the trust in order to provide the full Endoscopy service.

You will gain experience in delivering the day to day running of the service and manage the team's attendance, performance, supervision and assessment in practical and clinical skills to gain competencies in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and the assessment of patients prior to, during and after procedures.

You will lead the nursing team to work within a multidisciplinary team and across clinical boundaries in support of patient care. You will need to have outstanding organisational and interpersonal skills, the ability to demonstrate leadership, a sound understanding of Endoscopy and Gastroenterology environments and Nursing care. An understanding of JAG accreditation standards for Endoscopy services would also be essential.

Participation in the acute GI bleed out of hours/on call service would be required.

GRaDE Care Group is comprised of 3 clinical directorates:

  • Diabetes and Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology and Hepatology
  • Respiratory Medicine

All three directorates operate on the Northern and Central campus' although the acute admitting base for all of the specialties is at the Northern General Hospital. The Care Group has 11 acute base wards at the Northern General Hospital and one acute and one elective base ward at the Central Campus. Outpatient services operate on both campus' and are supported by the Patient Booking Hub at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
