An opportunity has arisen for a Assistant Audiologist to join our team.
The post holder will assist the audiologists in the performance of their duties. As well as perform a wide range of routine tasks including hearing aid repairs and fine-tuning of digital hearing aids, patient preparation, adjustments of ear moulds, routine equipment maintenance, stock control and administrative duties.
They will also provide first line counselling to patients and carers.
Main duties of the job
Assist the qualified audiologists in patient preparation.
To perform basic otoscopic examinations to recommended procedures and be able to identify abnormal and normal appearances of the ear.
To provide advice and training to new and existing hearing aid patients. All patients will be hearing impaired but many will have complex communication needs and will need reassurance and support in accepting and understanding their hearing loss / hearing aid information and motivation / supporting patients in use of their hearing aids. Excellent communication skills needed especially where patients have barriers to understanding due to level of hearing loss / poor speech discrimination. Occasionally working with patients who have learning disabilities / dementia patients and with patients who may have additional physical disabilities or mental health issues. Problem solving skills will be an important part of the role.
To undertake routine hearing aid repair clinics, which includes; servicing hearing aids, re-tubing ear moulds and the replacement of batteries.
To perform basic fine-tuning to digital hearing aids.
Take impressions of adult ears for hearing aid ear moulds whilst following recommended procedures, selecting correct type of earmould and venting of moulds for hearing aid requirements and patients' needs.
