Job summary
The Clinical Immunology & Allergy Unit is looking to recruit a Locum Consultant to join our dynamic and patient-focused service, based predominantly at the Northern General Hospital.
The purpose of the post is to support the reduction of an allergy waiting list backlog. The post is to commence as soon as possible on an initial 12 month contract, at full-time hours (10 Programmed Activities per week).
We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.
Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.
Main duties of the job
The unit has recently undergone a full refurbishment and expansion, and now boasts a modern and welcoming waiting area, 5 clinic rooms, a dedicated phlebotomy room and 2 day case ward areas.
The unit is serviced by the adjacent UKAS accredited Immunology laboratory which includes a national protein reference unit. It provides comprehensive specific IgE testing, basophil activation and specialised testing for mast cell activation.
The Clinical Immunology and Allergy Unit is actively involved in the Trent Regional Immunology and Allergy Consortium, which meets regularly and whose role is to develop regional guidelines, regional audit and sharing of best practice. It is also accredited with the Improving Quality in Allergy Services (IQAS) programme.
The post holder will be expected to play an active role in service development, clinical audit, research and clinical governance. Research is encouraged and full facilities are available.
