Job summary

Provide vision, strategic direction and professional leadership to all staff across the Trust. Promoting excellence in all areas of clinical practice and patient care to ensure that all patients receiving care and treatment have a high quality patient experience.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a clinical expert in the field of infection prevention and control and will fulfil the 4 domains of the Nurse Consultant function:

  1. Advanced and expert level practice within the field of infection prevention and control Leadership and consultancy.
  2. Development and provision of education and training.
  3. Service development and improvement.
  4. Research evaluation, and audit.

Will practice at an advanced clinical level and exercise high levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care. Providing clinical leadership, expert practice, and advanced knowledge, integrating research evidence into practice and contributing to/leading on research in infection prevention and control. There is an expectation that a minimum of 50% of the post holder's portfolio will be spent in direct autonomous clinical practice, having clinical responsibility from an infection prevention and control perspective and providing leadership for clinicians within the field of clinical expertise.

  • Registered Nurse
  • Masters Degree in relevant field or equivalent or higher post graduate qualification
  • Recognised Management/leadership qualification or programme
  • To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development

Desirable

  • Working toward doctorate qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post registration experience working effectively in the field of infection prevention and control
  • Knowledge of current health and social care agendas within the NHS
  • Significant evidence of delivering teaching programmes to staff groups
  • Evidence of presentations at local, regional, national level
  • Evidence of dissemination of research and applying research to clinical practice
  • Evidence of involvement in local and national networks
  • Evidence of a commitment to Evidence Based Practice.

Desirable

  • Presentation of papers and publications in peer reviewed journals
  • Lead/chair national networks relating to specialty
  • Evidence of undertaking research
