Job summary
Applications are invited from enthusiastic individuals to join the team in this busy laboratory. The department is a diagnostic Microbiology service, which assists in the diagnosis of infections in patients in Sheffield and the surrounding area. Medical Laboratory Assistants provide an invaluable support function to other scientific staff within the department and the work is both interesting and challenging.
Main duties of the job
Medical Laboratory Assistants carry out vital support functions in the Laboratory (often without close supervision from qualified staff) which do not require the knowledge and training of a Registered Biomedical Scientist.
To receive, sort and label laboratory specimens as required.
To be responsible for the accurate data entry into the Laboratory Computer I.T. System.
Pre-analytical processing of samples to include the receipt, preparation and processing.
Store, retrieve and dispose of biological material according to the relevant procedures.
Deal with direct queries from Medical Staff, Nursing Staff and other Service Users including telephone enquiries and taking appropriate action as necessary.
Assist scientific Staff in Laboratory activities
