Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a specialist band 5 physiotherapistto work within the Neurology and Stroke Services at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.

The post holder will complete annual rotations in specialist neurological areas across neurosciences and stroke. Rotations include acute and community stroke, neuromedicine and neurosurgery. The neurosurgery rotation incorporates working across both general and neurosurgical critical care. This team also covers a neurosurgical ward which offers a spinal surgery service and an ENT / Max Fax Ward.

The stroke rotations cover the full stroke pathway from the hyper-acute management to the community stroke team which delivers rehabilitation within a patients home and a community based stroke centre.

The neuromedicine team cover a ward treating complex long term neurological conditions including patients requiring non-invasive ventilation.

This post offers excellent personal and professional development opportunities within well-established services. The post holder will have opportunities to supervise students and to contribute to the development of the service. The post holder will be supported by senior staff to carry a clinical caseload, provide assessment, intervention and discharge planning utilising their clinical reasoning skills.

Main duties of the job

Candidates will need to demonstrate:

  • Post graduate experience; sufficient to have acquired and completed core competencies in Physiotherapy practice in respiratory and neurology
  • The knowledge and skills to manage a complex neurological and respiratory caseload.
  • Evidence of continuing personal and professional development
  • Effective interpersonal, communication and team working skills

The post holder must hold a full UK driving licence and access to a car as community working and domiciliary visits are a core component of the community stroke team rotation.

Therapy Services provides a number of services over 7 days (including Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays). The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to a seven day therapy roster including evening oncall cover.
