Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is looking to recruit Band 4 Specialist Physiotherapy Assistant to join the Active Programmes Team. Active Programmes delivers Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation in the community throughout Sheffield both in venues in groups and in patients own homes.
There is a well-developed multi-disciplinary team with Band 7 clinical leads to support you in developing your knowledge and skills in this clinical area. You will work closely with Specialist Nurses, Specialist Physiotherapists and Mental Health Team and so should be used to working in an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary environment.
Main duties of the job
To be legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care ensuring a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management.
To gain valid informed consent and have the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
To deliver rehabilitation programmes in groups with qualified support, and in patients home setting, independently and according to local protocols and guidelines.
To be able to take an accurate and reliable set of baseline observations including blood pressure oxygen saturations pulse and be able to identify when they are abnormal and what action is appropriate.
To frequently assess patients to defined protocols requiring prolonged concentration to investigate and analyse the assessment to formulate individualised management and treatment plans.

Essential
- Level 4 Diploma in a relevant discipline such as Personal Trainer/fitness instructor. Or Level III NVQ in relevant topic i.e. Health & Social Care or equivalent with extensive experience of working in an exercise delivery environment.
- Maths & English GCSE grade C/4 or above OR core literacy and numeracy skills.
- Able to demonstrate a commitment to personal development.
Desirable
- IT training/qualification to ECDL level or equivalent
- Later Life Training qualification or equivalent.
- BACR Phase IV qualification
Experience
Essential
- Relevant experience of working as a Therapy assistant with relevant experience at Band 3 level.
- To have worked with patients who have a range of mobility, balance and long term conditions.
- To have managed own clinical caseload and worked independently of a qualified therapist.
- Experience of liaising with other agencies, services and professional colleagues.
- Experience as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of the roles of all members of the interdisciplinary team.
- To have knowledge about functional ability regarding personal and domestic activities of daily living.
- Knowledge of the duty of, and the STH's policy regarding confidentiality.
