Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Locum Speciality Registrar (LAS) Post In General Medicine
This post has arisen as a result of a vacancy on the Internal Medicine Training programme at CT1/CT2 equivalent level.
This is a rotational post for 8 months available from 6th Dec 2023 until 6th Aug 2022 . The post comprises
Cardiology/Diabetes & Endocrinology (4 months in each specialty commencing December 2023)
Respiratory Medicine/Renal Medicine (4 months in each specialty commencing December 2023)
Contracted hours - 40 hours per week plus full-shift rota commitment.
This post is suitable for doctors who have completed the foundation programme (F1 and F2) or equivalent.

Main duties of the job
Cardiology
The cardiology department is based in the Chesterman Wing of the Northern General Hospital. The successful candidate will be joining a large cardiology unit with a mix of secondary and tertiary cardiology. They will be well supported with daily consultant ward rounds on call and on the wards. On-call duties comprise of acute cardiology take, evening and weekend cardiology cover and specialty-based hospital
Diabetes & Endocrinology
The Directorate has facilities located on both RHH and NGH sites, with a bed complement of around 65 beds at the NGH site (across 3 teams).
Outpatient clinics are provided in the Sheffield Diabetes & Endocrine Centre at NGH and Medical Outpatients at RHH. There are two Diabetes Centres which provide multi professional specialist outpatient services, and a team of dedicated inpatient specialist nurses who support the whole
Respiratory Medicine
Respiratory Medicine is a single Directorate across Sheffield, with a presence on each hospital site. Respiratory Medicine is a rapidly developing speciality with Academic Directorate status, within the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
Renal Medicine
The Sheffield Kidney Institute provides acute and chronic renal impairment services for the 1.8m population of South Yorkshire in a network with Doncaster Royal Infirmary. As one of the largest renal units in the country,

Clinical Duties
There will be minor variations in different posts in different hospitals but this list is aimed at covering the majority of duties:
- Supervise, monitor and assist the Foundation House Officer (FY1) in the day-to-day management of inpatients in posts with an attached FY1.
- Liaise between nurses, FY1, FY2, patients, relatives and senior medical staff.
- Attend and participate in ward rounds as timetabled
- Attend outpatient clinics.
- Take part in rostered emergency work.
- Dictate discharge summaries.
- Study for higher examination and maintain continued professional development (if appropriate).
- Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions.
- Undertake audit at various times (if appropriate).
- Attend post mortem demonstrations - when required.
- Teach medical students as directed.
- Attend induction in each hospital or new department.
- Comply with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave
All posts participate in out of hours for hospital at night. Shift patterns and pay will be dependent upon the specialty you are allocated to at the time.

- Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise.
- Basic Medical Degree
- ALS (or equivalent)
Desirable
- Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP)

- Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems
- Interest in General Medicine
- 12 months clinical experience post-qualification and evidence of achievements of foundation competences from a UKFPO attained foundation programme or equivalent, in line with
- Recognition of, and ability to undertake the initial management of, an acutely ill patient
- Minimum 4 weeks experience in the NHS
