Job summary
A vacancy has arisen in the Clinical Chemistry department at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals for a Biomedical Scientist to join our Biochemistry team.
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic Biomedical Scientist with a flexible approach to work. The post will be based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital but may require rotations to the Northern General Hospital as we move towards a blood sciences model.
The post is a full time permanent role, covering 37.5 hours over a 7 day working week. Participation in the out of hours service will be an essential requirement, once deemed competent in all relevant areas. The OOH service is provided over 24/7, 365 days.
The department is an approved IBMS training laboratory. Continuous professional development (CPD) and completion of an IBMS Specialist Portfolio is actively encouraged and supported.
Applicants must possess an IBMS accredited degree in Biomedical Sciences, have relevant experience in Clinical Chemistry, and hold current registration with the HCPC (Band 5/Band 6 BMS). Ideally, candidates will have completed the IBMS specialist portfolio (Band 6 BMS) or be ready for assessment.
We will also consider applicants without specialist portfolio or extensive experience if no suitable band 6 level applications are received. In these circumstances, we would appoint to AFC band 5, or an annex of the band 5 pay scale for applicants who are imminently about to obtain HCPC registration and trainee Biomedical Scientists.
