Job summary

These are exciting times for an enthusiastic, motivated and forward-thinking SMT Qualified Aseptic Services Technician to help drive the technical services departments of both the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and Weston Park Hospital.

The department currently houses 11 pharmaceutical isolators with another 4 due imminently within the cutting-edge clinical trial/A.T.M.P. (advanced therapy medicinal product) facility being developed within Weston Park.

Prospective candidates have a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of technical services in a large teaching hospital environment. As an integral member of this pharmacy team, you will deliver a high-quality service for patients and staff of this Trust.

Main duties of the job

To achieve and maintain a validated aseptic technique and to aseptically prepare products using Isolator technology in accordance with approved worksheets, SOP's, Quality Assurance of Aseptic Preparation Services and Good Manufacturing Practice.

To dispense and book out medicines for patients, using the JAC computer system.

Undergo the Trust's intrathecal training and place onto the Intrathecal register. Must be willing to maintain this competency.

To prepare labels for aseptically dispensed and batch medicinal products using the available computer systems.

To assist in the training of new staff.

DUTIES COMMENSURATE TO BAND 4

To attend APDM Course.

Complete TSET Training.

Complete in house In-Process Checking competency.

Successfully complete the SMT qualification.

Please also note this vacancy is banded dependent upon applicants experience relevant to this post. The banding of the successful applicant/s will start at Band 3 unless applicants meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience/qualifications required to start on Band 4.

Essential

  • Education to GCSE (or equivalent) at grade 4/C or above in English and Maths
  • Have attained Buttercups Level 2 Qualification or equivalent, approved by The General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Have attained or be willing to undertake The Science Manufacturing Technician Two-year Course (SMT)
  • Have attained or be willing to undertake the Leeds University Aseptic Preparation of Medicines (ADPM) short course

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working in Aseptic Services including compounding of aseptic products in a GMP facility
  • Knowledge and understanding of GMP and QA and its application to Aseptic Processing

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a hospital pharmacy environment and a good working knowledge of safe dispensing and aseptic practices including chemotherapy

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience and understanding of health and safety legislation COSHH and Risk management and reporting
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team efficiently prioritising workload
  • Excellent time management
  • Ability to work under pressure with narrow margins of error and maintain accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to accurately follow written and oral instructions and a responsible attitude to accuracy and detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a professional manner with staff and managers including other health care professionals
  • Good IT skills including an understanding of Microsoft Office packages and JAC
