An exciting opportunity for a Clinical educator to take a lead role in nutritional safety across all our hospital sites.
Working with a variety of disciplines the post holder will be ensuring staff provide patients with their dietary requirements that is suitable for their needs.
Educational provision based on audit, research and local data analysis will provide the basis for a year long programme and the development of the nutrition champion role at ward level.

JOB PURPOSE
The postholder will act as a role model for nursing practice across the Trust, providing clinical nursing advice, education and leadership in relation to nutrition and the associated patient safety. The postholder will act as a source of expertise, advice and knowledge for healthcare professionals and work in conjunction with educational providers within and outside the Trust to support the education and training needs of staff around nutrition and the associated patient safety
The purpose of this fixed team role will be to work closely with each Matron and their ward teams to offer support, training and practical advice on implementing changes and sharing good practice in relation to nutritional safety. The post holder would also audit HANAT results and Datix incidents to identify areas where additional targeted support is required and to respond in a meaningful way, monitoring and auditing progress. It is anticipated that several styles will be used, particularly in the current environment where social distancing is required.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 6 months due to the post being recruited as part of a limited term project within the Trust. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the requirement for the post to be maintained as a part of the project's implementation and the timescales associated with this.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (in priority order)
- Responsibility for the assessment of training needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of training programmes, clinical supervision and the setting of agreed educational standards (Training Needs Analysis) Trustwide in relation to patient nutrition and meal safety
- Plan, implement and continually evaluate teaching programmes and specialist competency packages for nursing and AHP staff Trustwide in relation to patient nutrition and meal safety
- Contribute to directorate mandatory study sessions for all staff Trustwide in relation to patient nutrition and meal safety
- Monitor compliance and report attendance as required, ensuring accurate records of education and training are maintained for staff, in relation to patient nutrition and meal safety
- Liaise with the Sister/Charge Nurse to evaluate and audit educational standards/ compliance with patient nutrition and meal safety standards
- Plan and organise or participate in local and national study days on aspects of nutrition, Trustwide in relation to patient nutrition and meal safety
- Work with Catering, Dietetic Services and cross city colleagues to promote and develop educational opportunities, training and development, and the competency frameworks Trustwide in relation to patient nutrition and meal safety
- Co-ordinate the learning environment to provide learning opportunities for all grades of staff working within the directorates and evaluate the effectiveness of training in relation to patient nutrition and meal safety
