Job summary

The post holder will:

  • Work in partnership with the senior management team of Weston Park Cancer Centre and partner organisations across the Integrated Care System to provide and coordinate extensive training and education opportunities across patient cancer pathways.
  • Be responsible for overseeing induction, mandatory, and oncology-specific training, working with relevant managers to ensure compliance with training competencies to meet job descriptions and facilitate staff development.
  • Coordinate and facilitate training and maintenance of clinical skills.
  • Be an active member of relevant Local and National training and education, governance, and quality groups.
  • Be required to develop and maintain links with local Higher Education Institutions (HEI) to facilitate and support placements for both undergraduate and post graduate education programmes.
  • Be responsible for developing and sustaining their own knowledge, clinical skills, and professional awareness in accordance with the NMC Code.
  • Act as a role model and teacher, providing mentorship and support, demonstrating exemplary practice to all members of the Multi-disciplinary Team.
  • Coordinate and oversee student placements across cancer pathways within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and the wider integrated care system.

Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible for ensuring all new staff are given a robust induction programme.
  • Maintain own clinical practice to remain up to date and deliver as a Master Trainer of clinical skills and facilitate and support clinical skills training.
  • To facilitate the Training and Education programme available to Weston Park, partnership organisations cancer network and the SCS/SMR directorates, to optimise opportunities and develop relationships across the regional cancer networks.
  • To take responsibility for the management and completion of relevant competency packages for all staff.
  • To be the nominated mandatory training lead and facilitate CPR training for Weston Park Cancer Centre and support the SCMR/SCS directorate.

The post will involve working within Weston Park Cancer Centre and across the wider organisation and region that provide cancer diagnostics and treatment activity.

Essential

  • Degree level qualification in related subject
  • Professional qualification - First level nurse or registered Allied Health Professional Holds and maintains professional clinical registration.
  • Recognised teaching/training qualification and experience of delivering training e.g., Certificate in Education
  • Systematic Anti-Cancer Therapy, Intravenous Medication, Central Venous Access Devices, and Clinical Skills Competencies including venepuncture, cannulation, urinary catheterisation, and ECG

Desirable

  • Leadership/management qualification
  • OSCE examiner training
  • Simulation faculty development training
  • Postgraduate qualification in a related subject at Master's Level or a combination of additional knowledge in a healthcare field, training in coaching/mentoring and supporting learners in a healthcare environment and significant experience as an educator in a related field that would equate to Master's degree level.

Experience

  • Significant post registration experience in acute oncology
  • Significant experience of teaching, Supervising and Assessing healthcare learners in the practice and classroom setting
