Job summary

The Dermatology & CIAU Service Manager is a key role within the Specialised Medicine & Rehabilitation Care Group (SMR) Operational Team.

This post-holder will be managerially responsible for the development and delivery of the following services, in line with national and local requirements:

  • Directorate of Communicable Diseases and Specialised Medicine (CDSM)
    • Dermatology
    • Clinical Immunology & Allergy Unit (CIAU)

In conjunction with the Executive team, the post-holder will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to the Dermatology and Clinical Immunology & Allergy services within the Communicable Diseases & Specialised Medicine (CDSM) Directorate.

In collaboration with the Matrons, they will ensure that resources are available and utilised effectively to provide high standards of service, teaching and research, in this patient-centred environment.

The post holder will be responsible for attainment of financial, activity & waiting time targets.

Close collaboration with Finance, HR, Information and other central departments will be critical to ensuring each service functions effectively in these key areas.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be expected to take forward agreed projects to improve service delivery in key areas. Fostering effective working relationships with clinical teams and ensuring a multidisciplinary approach to service provision and planning will be critical.

The post-holder will be a key member of the Directorate and Care Group Management Team and will be expected to take on Care Group wide projects at times.

About us

The Dermatology Department is based at Central Campus at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

The department provides a wide range of treatments for patients with skin conditions. They also provide specialist clinics for Skin Cancer, Psoriasis, Skin Allergy, Laser treatment, Electrolysis, Mohs Micrographic surgery, Phototherapy including Photodynamic Therapy and Photobiology, Dermatology Lymphoma, Nail disease, Pigmented Lesions, Melanoma and all aspects of general Dermatology.

They also provide a minor surgery clinic.

Clinical Immunology & Allergy (CIAU)

CIAU is based at the Northern Campus and provides regional services for the diagnosis and effective treatment of immunology and allergy conditions and is one of a small number of specialist centres commissioned by NHS England (NHSE) for severe and complex allergy and immunology conditions requiring specialist intervention.

The allergy service includes assessment and diagnostic testing, patient specific dietary advice from a specialist allergy dietician, training and education from specialised nurses, desensitisation treatment and a comprehensive challenge testing service.

The immunology service includes assessment, diagnostic testing, and management of patients with immune deficiency and C1 inhibitor deficiency, a comprehensive Immunoglobulin replacement therapy service including home therapy. Home therapy for C1 inhibitor deficiency patients is also supported, in addition CIAU offers in house treatment for this condition.
