Job summary
The post-holder will provide Medical Physics Expert (MPE) level support for the Nuclear Medicine (NM) service on 3 sites across Sheffield, and at regional Trusts for whom we provide scientific services. Depending on experience, they may also provide support to the on-site Alliance-Medical owned PET-CT service and to the on-site University of Sheffield owned PET-MR service.
The post-holder will be a registered MPE for nuclear medicine. Anyone not yet registered may be considered at initial recruitment to a Band 7 role; they must be a registered Clinical Scientist with the HCPC with sufficient nuclear medicine experience to progress quickly to MPE registration.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will provide MPE level scientific support for nuclear medicine across the region, but especially to the Trusts own Molecular Radiotherapy (MRT) service, helping to drive forward the rapid changes in MRT.
Our Molecular Radiotherapy (MRT) service is large and expanding; we are currently in the final stages of a major capital programme which will provide expanded treatment facilities co-located with a new SPECT-CT camera being installed in September to support the growing service and adoption of MRT dosimetry.
We also benefit from excellent working relationships with clinical and nursing staff from the MRT referral pathways, especially the Endocrine and Oncology Consultants who hold the ARSAC licenses for our therapies.
About us
You will be working for an organisation which values and respects all of its staff and the community it serves. The Trust is a leader in the NHS and research sectors and provides excellent benefits for its staff. This includes commitments to professional development but also many policies to support employees in balancing their personal and professional lives.
Nuclear Medicine in Sheffield is a large 4-camera department running over 6000 patient procedures per year. We also offer scientific support, radiological ARSAC support and clinical technologist support to a number of Nuclear Medicine (NM) services at Trusts within the South Yorkshire / North Derbyshire region.
We are a large, friendly and busy department with Clinical Scientists, Clinical Technologists and Specialist Nurses working very closely with our Radionuclide Radiologist colleagues and others in Radiology. Our multidisciplinary team work very effectively together with all striving to improve services for both patients and staff.
Within the same department we also share Clinical Scientist staff with the Trust's 3DLab - an imaging lab which provides advanced image manipulation, visualisation, AI and AR developments and additive manufacturing. This supports a number of different clinical pathways from the wider Trust both in Sheffield and the region and its expertise has also helped improve and streamline various NM pathways and provided bespoke analysis for non-standard image acquisition.
