Main duties of the job

We are seeking an experienced 8B Clinical Psychologist to lead the psychology service in our neonatal unit. This is an established and well valued role having been set up in 2019. The successful candidate will work alongside a 8a Clinical Psychologist and the family care nursing team to provide trauma informed, family centred care for babies and their families. There are opportunities to be involved in service development, research and training within the unit and the expanding neonatal network.

The successful candidate will work alongside the senior leadership and allied health professionals teams. Within this role there are excellent opportunities to connect with other psychological professionals working in paediatric and neonatal intensive care units across the country and to link in with the Thames Valley and Wessex Neonatal Network. They will report to the Lead Clinical Psychologist for Child Health and will be part of the wider paediatric psychology service made up of 25 Clinical Psychologists, a Family Therapist, Assistant and Trainee Psychologists and an admin team.

Qualifications / Training Required

Essential

  • Post graduate doctoral level in training in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the Health and Care Professions Council
  • HCPC Registration
  • Further recognised post-doctoral training in the specialism of neuropsychology

Desirable

  • Further post-doctoral training in one area of psychological therapy e.g. family therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy
  • Training in restraint, e.g. SCIP

Previous or Relevant Experience Necessary

Essential

  • Significant assessed experience of working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist
  • Experience of assessing and working with children and young people with a whole range of emotional and behavioural difficulties and their families/carers, presenting with the full range of clinical severity across a range of settings including outpatient, community and residential
  • Experience of working in an acute paediatric setting and/or experience of working with children and families experiencing issues related to loss, bereavement, long term medical needs and/or cognitive difficulties, severe illness or injury
  • Experience of providing clinical supervision to others
  • Overseeing and managing referrals and waitlist for specialism
  • Familiarity with maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and challenging behaviour including physical abuse
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility in the psychological care of children and young people, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multi-agency care plan
  • Experience of teaching/training other professionals in Clinical Psychology
  • Experience of designing, carrying out, analysing and presenting clinical audit and service evaluation
