University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.
Please see below for detailed job description of the role.
Main duties of the job
You will work at a "Registrar / ST3+ level" and will generally work for a consultant team. You will be involved in the pre- and post-operative care of the patients, together with the appropriate theatre sessions and clinics. You will be involved in the care of all the patients in the Cardiothoracic unit when on-call. In theatre, you will assist in operations and may perform supervised surgeries and procedures depending on your level of experience. Our department is a busy, high-performing cardiothoracic surgical unit and a major regional referral centre, including major trauma, serving a large and diverse geographical area. The unit has an excellent reputation for managing complex and high-risk cases with outstanding clinical outcomes.
The surgical team comprises 9 consultant adult cardiac surgeons, 4 congenital cardiac surgeons, and 6 thoracic surgeons, supported by a strong multidisciplinary team including 18 registrars, 13 senior house officers, advanced nurse practitioners, surgical care practitioners, and nurse case managers. The department operates on a firm-based structure that fosters continuity, mentorship, and close collaboration within the team.
We are an academically active unit, with ongoing research projects, regular audits, and a strong record of publications. Teaching and training are actively encouraged, with ample opportunities for involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate education.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.
