Main duties of the job
Applications are invited for the post of a locum Congenital Cardiac Surgeon at Southampton University Hospital NHS Trust. This is a 23-month locum post. The successful applicant will have completed full subspecialty training in Congenital Cardiac Surgery and would have acquired significant experience as an independent operator, to cover the full range of congenital surgical procedures.
You will join a team of four congenital cardiac surgeons, 10 paediatric cardiologists and 5 ACHD cardiologists. The Congenital Cardiac Unit in Southampton is the Level 1 lead centre for the Oxford-Southampton Congenital Cardiac ODN. All congenital cardiac services are offered in Southampton including all Congenital Cardiac Surgery for children and adults, cardiac ECMO, fetal cardiology, congenital cardiac CMR/CT, interventional cardiac catheterisation, and all ACHD services. In addition, the Congenital Cardiac Surgery service forms part of the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery care group joining co-location and co-operation with the full range of adult-acquired cardiac and thoracic surgical and interventional procedures.
The department provides the full range of paediatric, neonatal and ACHD congenital surgical services to a region with a population of approximately 5 million.
