Main duties of the job

Are you a dietitian with experience in allergy, looking to expand your experience, skills and knowledge? We're looking for a 0.6 wte band 7 dietitian to work within our regional paediatric and adult allergy specialist multidisciplinary teams based at University Hospital Southampton to cover a 12 month fixed term maternity vacancy. The role is mostly outpatient focused, with occasional inpatient support for patients with food allergies. You will be supported by the band 8a specialist allergy dietitian in both adult and paediatric allergy and you will support a band 5 (0.4 wte) and band 6 dietitian ( 0.2 wte) in the paediatric team. There is also a 0.2 wte band 7 paediatric dermatology /allergy dietitian who will work alongside you.You will be based at Southampton General Hospital.

This includes face to face and virtual consultations Provide specialist dietetic input in the quarterly MDT- led paediatric gastro-allergy clinic, providing specialist dietetic input Devise protocols and recipes for food challenges undertaken on the adult and paediatric day wards Attend weekly MDT meetings Provide bespoke advice and support for home reintroductions Provide supervision and support for band 5 and 6 allergy dietitians Contribute to the student training programme for dietetic student placements Provide teaching and training on allergy to dietitians and other health professionals Lead on relevant service developments, audit, QI projects and research Facilitate the transistion of patients from paediatric to adult allergy clinics Request and interpret appropriate tests including skin prick tests, allergy and nutritional blood tests

Skills and Experience:We are looking for someone who has experience of working in food allergy. You will be a qualified dietitian, currently registered with the HCPC. You will have appropriate skills and knowledge related to food allergy, including an understanding of the nutritional challenges faced by children, young people, adults and their families living with food allergy. A good understanding of the prevention and treatment of food allergy is essential along with the ability to independently plan and prioritise a busy, complex caseload in an efficient and organised manner. You must be a good communicator, have an empathic nature and take a holistic approach to care.You must be able to demonstrate your ability to work within an MDT as a highly specialist dietitian and have the confidence to present and discuss your professional opinion with colleagues. This role will suit someone wanting to work in a large allergy team as well as supervising and supporting band 5 and 6 dietitians, enabling them to achieve relevant competencies.
